Boat Licence | PWC Endorsement Course Requirements
MEET ELIGIBILITY
Meet Age Prerequisites (see below). Be fit and well to safely participate. Or be cleared by your doctor to participate in this course and hold a licence.

2. Select your Course Date & Location, & pay for your course.
3. Read the Tasmanian Safe Boating Handbook
4. Complete Online Theory Practice Test (includes Enrolment Form)
This helps us ensure everyone has a good foundation of understanding, and identify the areas we may need to spend additional time discussing.
5. Email your Evidence of Identity *.
*Required by MAST / Service Tasmania to issue your Boat License &/or PWC (Jetski) Endorsement.
ATTEND PRACTICAL COURSE DAY
6. Attend Practical + Theory Skills and Assessment Day
IMPORTANT: You will need access to a registered Jetski for this practical session.
THEN
7. Pay for your Boat/PWC Licence: Once the above requirements are met, AquaCraft will inform MAST, who will update ServiceTas. Service Taswill send you an approval email. Take the email to Service Tasmania to pay your Boat License &/or PWC Endorsement. Tip: Keep an eye on your email inbox and junkmail.

Our Approach
Our approach aims assist you to pass your practical and theory assessment on the practical course day. But more importantly it also aims to embed and consolidate the information. You won’t have a handbook on the water with you, and knowledge is essential to safe operation of a boat or jetski. For the safety of both yourself and others we ask you to partner us in gaining this knowledge.

Online theory pre-assessment test (and enrolment)
Practical Skills & Assessment Day - providing theory information, discussion and assessment as well as practical skills information and assessment
Course pre-reading and practice test aims to help ensure a good foundation of knowledge before you attend the course. It also assists us to identify areas that might require additional discussion.
Your experienced trainer/s aims to inform you about everything you need to know to pass the practical and written assessments
The Course includes the following Units of competency from the Boatsafe Boat License package:

Navigation
Weather and Tides
Emergencies
Manoeuvring

Age Pre-requisites
Must be over 12 years of age to complete the course.
If aged between 12 and 16 a provisional licence can be obtained. A parent or guardian must be present and on the water with participants for the practical session. As required by legislation they must also accompany you once you are licenced until you turn 17yo.
At 17yo a full boat licence / PWC endorsement can be achieved.
Course Reading & Theory Assessment
Read the Tasmanian Safe Boating Handbook to be able to answer the online theory test.

The information can be read online, or downloaded and printed. A hard copy can also be purchased at Service Tasmania sites. Contact Service Tasmania to check they have them in stock before attending.
Complete the Online Theory Assessment (after paying for the course) which includes the Enrolment Form.
*Complete the test before the Practical Skills + Assessment Day. You can resubmit after the training day so that you can get any clarification needed.
What to Bring Along
A collapsible camp chair (compact version) – at least part of the course will be theory in the field and may involve moving around depending on the site.
Hat, sunscreen, sunglasses
Waterproof clothing / jacket – in case it rains
Suitable swimwear or wetsuit for entering the water (practical assessment)
Change of warm clothing (in the event of wet weather)
Suitable footwear, lunch / drink (water)
Life Jacket for each person on/in the water. Life Jackets must meet current Australian Safety Standards here.
Registered Jetski on a registered trailer with required safety equipment.
Recreational Boating and PWC Licence courses are provided in line with Marine and Safety Tasmania requirements.

Optional Course: Orientation to Boat | Jetski ownership
These are booked as private courses and may be extended to include other participants. This short course is an optional additional session for new boat /jetski owners includes orientation information which Includes:
MaST safety requirements and use (including practical flare use)
Boat /Jetski /trailer pre-checks
Entering harbours, rivers or channels (practical examples)
Boat Ramp etiquette
Tips for backing trailers and launching boats
Awareness and scanning of shallow water or objects in the water
Practical implementation of speed restrictions – judging approximate distances from boat ramps, from shore, from swimmers and so on.
Returning to the boat ramp or jetty
Tips on mooring and other useful information
It is important to understand that this is a practical orientation session only. At all times the responsibility for your own safe practices, the safety of people around you, and protection of yours and other peoples’ equipment lays with the boat owner and/or skipper. We can only provide information about good practice. We cannot control your actions.
